Windsor Castle is thought to be the largest inhabited castles around today & the eldest in continuous occupation (over nine hundred years). It is 1 of Queen Elizabeth’s three formal homes, & is often understood to be her most treasured home. The Royal colours flies above the Round Tower of Windsor Castle each time Queen Elizabeth 2nd is at the residence - whereas, at alternative periods, the Union Jack flag flies in its place.

Windsor Castle Stirring History:
The origins of Windsor were in the beginning of the 7th century Saxon hamlet of Windlesora, where the existing day village of Old Windsor is situated. The settlement of Windsor is accurately branded as “New Windsor” - the actual word “new” being referenced in a strictly relative sense!
Windsor Castle at the outset was erected by the illustrious William the Conqueror, as a result of his invasion of England in ten sixty-six. The original frame was put together from timber with ground defences. The Castle held a clear tactical position on a steep mound on top of the River Thames, & was a division of a band of strongholds around London, with the Tower of London, one day’s hike away, at its centre. The Castle was later remodelled in stone, and grew in importance over time. Later on Henry 2nd built the Round Tower and the original stone outer wall. Following the English Civil War, the building’s primary role became that of a royal home. The Castle has remained almost completely untouched ever since the start of the 19th century, apart from the reconstruction effort right after the latest fire.
